CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

Registration begins June 26 at 11:00A.M. Preference is given to Gold
Coast Public Library cardholders. Children must be registered to
attend. Registrants must arrive on time or their spaces will be given
to others on the waiting list. Craft programs require wearing old
clothes since paint and markers could be permanent.

It’s Summertime and the Reading is Easy…

Make a Splash…Read!
Kindergarten through fifth graders can read their favorite books for weekly prizes. Sign up your preschooler for the Gold Coast Read-To-Me Kids Club.

School Summer Reading Lists Now Available!
Pick up a copy today.  Look for the brightly colored stickers on the spines of the books to locate your required summer reading for each grade.  Green is for elementary school, pink is for middle school and yellow is for high school.  Need help finding a great book?  Ask a librarian!

Miss Ashley Crafts
Thurs., July 8 — Designer Cork Board      Grades K-2 3-3:30P.M.
Have fun decorating a cork board for your room.
Thurs., July 22 — Creative Writing Workshop Grades 3-5 3-3:30P.M.
Write your own story, in a notebook provided, using a scenic photograph for inspiration.
Thurs., Aug. 12 — Sun Mosaics                  Grades K-2 3-3:30P.M.
Bright pieces of foam create a shining sun mosaic.
Thurs., Aug. 26 — Magnets                         Grades 3-5  3-3:30P.M.
Make a cute magnet to use or give as a gift.

Family Scavenger Hunt

Choose a team name and pick up a checklist. The team that finishes first with the greatest number of items wins a prize. The checklist plus all the items must be brought to the Children’s Room no later than 3pm.

Create this cool, colorful ocean creature that holds a surprise snack in his mouth. Cleverly decorate with spray paint.
 
Father Goose Story Time        Ages12-35 months

Parents, grandparents and caregivers are invited to share some quality time with their children during thirty-minute Circle Time. Sessions highlight nursery rhymes, stories and songs.

Starfish Placemat and Coaster           Grades K-5

Paint an underwater scene on a canvas placemat and a starfish on a coaster.  It's sure to put a smile on your face at every meal.

This thirty-minute program presents short films based on children’s favorite picture books.

Make waves in your fully-decorated 7" round pool cake.  Everyone goes home with a cake in a bakery box to share with friends and family!
Wed., Aug. 18 — Make Ice Cream              4-5:00P.M.
Learn how to make ice cream and then enjoy eating it at the library.  Everyone goes home with a recipe for making ice cream from scratch.

Flow Circus engages audiences of all ages in experiences of play that captivate, energize, and inspire.

Rubber Duck Design Contest
Sat., June 26 through Sat., Aug. 14
Rubber Duckie...you might be the one!  Two ducks will be selected to win a prize: one from Grades K-2, the other from Grades 3-5.  Ducks will be judged on originality, style, and color...so let your imagination run wild! Pick up your duck and form in the Children's Room today!  All ducks must be submitted no later than August 14.

Letterboxing: A Family Adventure
Sat., June 26 through Tues., Aug. 31
Letterboxing provides an intriguing mix of treasure hunting, navigation and exploration. See Children’s Room for details.

2nd Annual Bookmark Contest
Create an original bookmark based on the 2010 Make a Splash Summer Reading theme. Contest begins June 26; all bookmarks must be submitted no later than August 14th. Two bookmarks will be selected to be printed and given out at the library: one from Grades K through 2, and one from Grades 3 through 5.
