Libraries are Homework Central
Homework and test help
is only a keystroke away. Click
on the Virtual Library link.
These resources are free for Gold Coast library cardholders; just
use the barcode number on your card to gain access. Resources are
arranged alphabetically or by subject. There’s a special listing by curriculum areas for students
of all ages. Not sure what resource to pick? Under the Library Brochures
link, select one of three ‘webliographies’ for students
in elementary, middle, or high school.
Online tutoring is available,
too; just click on the Live Homework
Help link. This program is primarily
for 4th to 12th grade students and is available every day from 2
to 10PM. It connects to a live tutor for up to 20 minutes of one-on-one
help in math, science, social studies, or English.
Ask a Librarian enables real-time communication with a Reference Librarian who can
assist you with your Internet search or questions regarding the use
of electronic resources. As of September 1, Ask
a Librarian will
be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
Two resources assist
with examinations: Learning Express contains completely interactive
online test preparation and practice for Civil Service, GED, SAT,
U.S. citizenship, law enforcement, real estate, and 4th and 8th grade
performance tests, plus many others. The Gale Testing and Educational
Reference Center enables users to practice for specialized tests
for colleges, graduate school, the military or trade school (ACT,
ASVAB, CLEP, GED, GMAT, CAT, SAT, TOEFL, and more). It also provides
help in writing admissions application essays or resumes.

Books on the Go!
Love to read but constantly on the
go? Gold Coast Public
Library introduces its Books
on the Go! program. Now it is easier than ever to listen
to a favorite book or author.
Books on the Go! is comprised
of:
- Audiobooks: books on CDS that
are read by the author or professional actors/actresses.
- Playaways:
prerecorded digital books. Just plug in headphones and go. Playaways
are so small you can put them in your pocket. The library also
loans the adapter needed to listen to a Playaway on your car radio.
- MP3 Players: a portable
device that allows books to be downloaded from Nassau
Digital Doorway,
a library resource that contains a vast number and a wide variety
of book titles.
Gold Coast Public Library continues to add to the Go! program.
- Nassau Digital Doorway, a new downloadable media service
is now available to the public. Nassau Digital Doorway contains
the largest amount of bestselling digital audiobooks and delivers
premium titles. To access
the audiobooks click on the image above or the Digital Doorway
tab located on the navigation bar. After installing the software
onto a PC, titles can be searched and downloaded by entering
the library card barcode number. Titles can be downloaded onto
a PC, MP3 player or even burned onto a CD.
