It’s Summertime and the Reading is Easy…

Make Waves at Your Library
Sixth though twelfth graders can log the minutes they spend reading for weekly prizes and for entry into raffle drawings.

School Summer Reading Lists Now Available!
Pick up a copy today.  Look for the brightly colored stickers on the spines of the books to locate your required summer reading for each grade.  Green is for elementary school, pink is for middle school and yellow is for high school.  Need help finding a great book?  Ask a librarian!

Shirts & Shakes: Summer Reading Kick-Off
Tues., June 29                                                             3:30-4:30P.M.
Design your own t-shirt while enjoying a root beer float!  Earn raffle entries by reading this summer; the more you read, the more entries you earn.
Computer Tutors (one-on-one sessions will be arranged.)

Mandatory training session
Tues., July 6                      6:30-7:00P.M.
Volunteer an hour of your time to teach computer basics to seniors. Come to the training session with your summer schedule so we can match you with an interested senior.

Improv Workshop
Wed., July 7, 14, 21 & 28                                         4:30-5:30P.M.
Have fun in this hands-on series where you'll learn the basics of improvisational acting.  On July 28 make props and put on a show for small children.

Friday Fun Day
Fri., July 9, 16, 23, 30; Aug. 6, 13 & 20                            3-5:00P.M.
Come to the Library Annex to play board games and your favorite Wii Games while hanging out with friends.

Eat a Good Book
Thurs., July 15                        4:30-5:30P.M.
Bring your favorite book with you and use it for inspiration while you create your own book cookie using edible markers and paint.

Goth Handpainted Mirror
Mon., July 19                                                                    3:30-5:00P.M.
Show off your goth style while you paint a canvas, glue on a mirror, a stamped CD and decoupage a design of your choice over your painting.

Teen Consultants
Thurs., July 22 & 29                                                             4-5:00P.M.
Recommend your favorite children’s book to younger kids, using a Flip video camera in the children’s room.  Must attend both sessions.  Session 1—choose your book and write your script.  Session 2—we film it.  A parental waiver must be signed.

Summer Book Party

Tues., July 27                                                                    6:30-8:00P.M.
Read Susan Beth Pfeffer's Life as we Knew It, then come to the Annex for a book party!  Make a granola treat and answer questions about the book for small prizes.  Pick up your copy of the book at the Circulation Desk along with a complimentary tote bag.

Project Runway

Wed., Aug. 4                                                                           4-5:00P.M.
Sketch your design and then create it with the help of a cut-out model and real fabric, then strut your design down the runway.

Clay & Glass Seascape Vase
Wed., Aug. 11                                                                        4-5:00P.M.
Bring the beach to you this summer by painting a sea scene onto a glass vase and decorating it with sea shells.

Cookie Cutter Cakes
Thurs., Aug. 19                                                           4:30-5:45P.M.
Create your own beach theme on a cake using cookie cutters and yummy butter cream.

Make Your Own Pizza & Party: End of Summer Celebration
Tues., Aug. 24                                                                   3:30-5:00P.M.
Celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program by making your own pizzas to take home and bake.

Take advantage of Live Homework Help and Live Librarian, easily accessible through the library's website, www.goldcoastlibrary.org.

Click on the Live Homework Help link any day of the week from 2:00 to 10:00P.M. for a twenty minute tutoring session in math, science, social studies, or English. The Live Librarian service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
